15,000 | Life of AshleyDannie

So it is that time of year.

Dec. 31st.

Which means tomorrow is a new year. 2019 is another step and another chapter, but it is a chapter I have been waiting on. See, I have had a dream since I was a child to write and publish a book. Stories have poured out of my subconscious as long as I can remember. I would be lying if I say I haven’t finished a book and buried it in the files of my computer, never to see the light of day unless I open it to revisit the world I created within its virtual pages.

And to say that I haven’t been working on a novel for about three-ish years and haven’t finished the rough draft yet would also be a lie. I am 15,000 words away.

Now for the non-writer that seems like a lifetime of words, but to a writer it is nothing. It is the last leg of a novel of words. 15,000 is peanuts, but it is everything. It is the end of the novel. It is the climax and resolution. It is the wrap up of a story you have created. Do you know how hard it is to put together an ending? Very difficult. Why?

Because we don’t want it to ever end.

This is a world we have created, crafting the characters, visualizing the places, and bringing them to life through our words. It is our baby.

Last May I made a 30s Dream List. (Click here to read). In this list, item 20 is three simple words “Publish a book.” It is way easier to type than to do, but that is my goal this year. Not to have it out in the world published because that would be a miracle, but to have it finished and sent out to publishers. This is the year. Finish 15,000 words. Edit it. Write up a proposal. Send it out. That last part is the scary bit. That last part is the what stops me from finishing my dream, but if I keep stopping the pursuit of my dreams–my calling.

So here I go. The countdown begins because in 10 hours it will be 2019 and a step further into what I feel I am meant to do.

So to all my writers with a number, share it, and put it in the world. Claim it. Don’t be ashamed of it, because that number is your year.

Have a Happy New Year!
